The American Red Cross Responds

A Relief Emergency Response Unit (ERU) made up of five American Red Cross specialists is being deployed to manage the distribution of relief items to earthquake survivors. An additional disaster specialist is en route to Haiti to support disaster assessments as part of a team from the International Federation. The American Red Cross has made available all relief supplies stored at it warehouse in Panama. These include blankets, kitchen sets, and water containers to meet the immediate needs of up to 5,000 families.

Assessments are ongoing and if needed, the American Red Cross is prepared to mobilize additional support, including relief supplies, trained personnel or additional financial assistance.

New Web Site Launched to help families reconnect

 ICRC is helping reconnect separated families in Haiti through a special web site which enables people in Haiti and outside the country to search for and register the names of relatives missing since the earthquake.  In the first twenty-four hours, more than 6,000 people have been registered

Donors can text “Haiti” to 90999 on their cell phone to send a $10 donation to support Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.  The mobile giving effort raised more than $3 million by Thursday morning, and all money raised goes to support Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.

Haiti Earthquakes

Two days ago, a series of earthquakes ranging from magnitude 6.5 to 7.3 began to strike Haiti in the highly populated area of Department Ouest, 10 miles southeast of Port-au-Prince. Aftershocks continue. The damage from the earthquake has been tremendous.
